About Gareth

My name is Gareth Baxendale, and I am currently pursuing my master’s degree in Mental Health
Counseling at Manhattan University, with graduation anticipated in Spring 2026. As a parent to two
middle schoolers and a 5-year-old pug named Max, my journey toward becoming a therapist was
inspired by my time coaching youth and adult sports.

I took great pride in seeing people develop and thrive on the field and felt a strong desire to help them grow off the field as well. This experience motivated me to pursue therapy as a way to support others on a deeper and more meaningful level.

Theory and Philosophy

Working on and prioritizing your mental health takes courage, and I believe that no one should ever be alone in this process. My philosophy is rooted in walking alongside you on this this journey, building a strong supportive relationship and empowering you to achieve your goals. Together, we can create a space where you feel safe, understood and equipped to navigate life’s challenges and embrace your growth.

As parents and caregivers, we hold the vital responsibility of equipping our children with the tools necessary to thrive in today's rapidly evolving world. Early intervention plays a crucial role in identifying and addressing potential challenges at the earliest stage, laying a strong foundation for long-term
success and overall well-being. My approach emphasizes a collaborative partnership with families to support each child's developmental journey, cultivate resilience, and nurture the essential skills required to navigate life with confidence and adaptability.

Modalities

I believe that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process; it should be tailored to each client’s unique needs and goals. Together, we can explore and identify the approach that works best for you or your child.

I take a person-centered approach to therapy, prioritizing empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard. My goal is to create a supportive, non-judgmental environment that empowers clients to explore their experiences, navigate challenges, and achieve personal growth.

I am deeply committed to incorporating evidence-based approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioral
Therapy (CBT), into my practice. CBT focuses on identifying and challenging negative thought patterns and behaviors, replacing them with healthier, more constructive ways of thinking and acting. This approach supports emotional well-being and effectively addresses a wide range of mental health challenges.
