Self-Care Is More Than a Bubble Bath

Today is Earth Day, and while people are thinking about taking care of the planet, it feels like a good time to think about taking care of ourselves too.
People hear the words self-care and often picture spa days, candles, face masks, and bubble baths. While there is nothing wrong with any of those things, self-care is usually much less glamorous than that.
Self-care is going to bed earlier because you are exhausted.
It is drinking water when you have been surviving on coffee.
It is making the doctor’s appointment you have been putting off.
It is saying no when you know your plate is already too full.
It is taking a break from people, social media, work, or whatever else is draining you.
It is choosing not to answer the text right away.
It is asking for help.
Many people are overwhelmed right now. There are jobs, bills, kids, relationships, family responsibilities, school, caregiving, and a million other things pulling at us every day. It becomes very easy to put ourselves at the bottom of the list.
But the truth is that we cannot continue pouring from an empty cup.
Earth Day reminds us that when something is neglected for too long, it starts to show. The same is true for people. Eventually our bodies, minds, and emotions start telling us that we need rest.
Maybe self-care today looks like taking a walk outside. Maybe it is sitting in silence for ten minutes. Maybe it is eating lunch away from your desk. Maybe it is deciding that you do not have to do everything today.
Whatever it looks like, let it count.
You deserve care too.
At Creative Counseling Solutions, we understand that self-care is often easier said than done. Many people struggle to slow down, ask for help, or make themselves a priority. Therapy can be a space to better understand what you need, why it feels difficult to give yourself permission to rest, and how to build healthier habits that support your emotional well-being.
This Earth Day, take care of yourself the same way you would care for something you love.
